Sunrise and Sunset Scenic Spots @ George Town, Penang

Image
Penang Hill's City Panorama I read with fascination the history of Penang Hill that a military lookout point to oversee the security of Penang was set up by the British military detachment as early as 1790. From the top of the hill, foreign military vessels entering the Straits of Malacca could be spotted at much further distance. This enabled early signals to be sent to the troops stationed at Fort Cornwallis located in George Town. With this preconceived notion, I visit Penang Hill anticipating to see a grand panorama of the city with its port perches at the mouth of the Straits of Malacca, where incoming cargo ships can be seen at the far horizon. Infact, I am surprised and stunned by the grandiose and the clarity of the view - The cities of Goerge Town and Butterworth are vividly visible in great detail in the vast open sea of the Straits of Malacca. The skyscrapers in the cities are still lighted up in the early morning hours. They dazzle like thousands of firefly hovering ove...

Riverscape Reimagined along a Transforming Kallang River

Image
Arming with the visions of sustainable and inclusive development, and  after more than 2 decades of revitalization and rejuvenation of the Kallang River, a renew riverfront urbanscape of higher values begins to take shape. Kallang Riverside Park  – the sustainable waterfront communities. By integrating Kallang River and its tributaries seamlessly with an island-wide network of Park Corridors, many areas of seemingly “deserted” land have been rejuvenated and turned into valuable assets that can be rezoned for new uses. Kallang Basin   – the fresh water reservoir in the city. A massive multi-year clean-up project embarking at Kallang Basin has transformed it into today’s clean body of fresh water. It has become a water reservoir in the city and also a hot spot for green water sport like kayaking and canoeing. Kallang River Rail Tracks and Road Bridges  – the aesthetic dimension of infrastructures. Although transportation infrastructures like rail tracks and road bridge...

Forest City Johor – The Mirage in the sea.

Image
- The invisible City (I) - The Invisible City (II) - The Invisible City (III) - I went back to Raffles Marina Pier @ Tuas to take another look of the place. This time I focused entirely on one of its most famous attraction – the Forest City Johor. I reached the destination just before sunset. The place was permeated with a lay-back feel of kampung days. There were very few sunset watching visitors could be seen; however, an old man was spotted fishing leisurely on the pier. The sky was misty that day. The sun burned through the cloud, casting warm radiant glows in the sky and the sea before it sunk into the honrizon. The faint silhouette of the Forest City was vaguely visible against the misty sky  – it looked as if it could fade away silently at any time like the appearance and disappearance of a mirage in the sea. I took a series of long exposure shots, capturing the atmospheric mood of the place in the dim lights of the twilight hours. JS  .  Photography Canon 6D...

Forest City, Second Link & Lighthouse @ Raffles Marina Yacht Club

Image
- Forest City Johor  - Tuas Second Link  - Raffles Marina Lighthouse - Dubbed as one of the best spots to watch beautiful sunset in Singapore, from the pier at Raffles Marina Yacht Club, the  panoramic view of  a number of iconic structures standing against the radiant evening sky can be enjoyed without blockage. These structures are namely Tuas Second Link, Forest City Johor and Raffles Marina Lighthouse. The pier is 2-3 minutes walking distance from Tuas Link MRT station, the last stop of the East-West MRT Line at the western end of the island. It is open to the public. Challenges: Both the Second Link and the Forest City are clearly visible, but appear far away and therefore look tiny from the pier at the Raffles Marina Yacht Club. Equipped with only a 16-35mm camera lens on hand and limited by accessibility (some zones are fenced-off for security reasons), thus making them stand out and look prominent from their surrounding bare open space become a challenge....
