Enlivened Urban Space Series: Giant Wrestlers Installation

Gupta's Inflated Giant Wrestlers is installed against the backdrop of soaring skyscrapers

– It is seen as a juxtaposition to the visual density of a bustling metropolis and a synthesis that celebrates multiplicity where tensions and conciliation co-exists.

Named Untitled, this visually striking installation is created by a renowned Indian artist, Shilpa Gupta. The sculpture initially seems like two bodies wrestling. However, on closer look, they share a single head that is pinned down on the ground. Their bodies look metallic and strong, but upon touching, they are soft and inflated.

Gupta, known for her keen observations on state violence and historical memory, uses this piece to reflect on city life’s tensions and our internal battles. The flexible material used symbolizes resilience and adaptability, reminding us that even in conflict, there is a shared foundation.
